I have one more day in Florida and then I have to come home.
I get to come home to reality, and adjust to the change that happened the day before I left. I get to get used to day to day life without him.
I’ve been decent at avoiding thinking about the whole thing today and yesterday, but the dread that comes along with knowing I can’t avoid it once I get home is…dampening. It’s heavy and oppressive.
Pre-depression.
So I guess I’ll get home, rest up, get my work schedule, and go get me a dog. Maybe he or she will just consume my life and fill the void in my heart with a new love. I can fawn over my dog instead of worrying about what I don’t have anymore. I can transfer the love.
And when I get weak he or she can lick the tears from my face.
I know I need some time to cry. To cope with my feelings. To sew up the cuts in my heart instead of just putting band-aids on them and hope it works.
But those band-aids need to last me until I get back to Indiana.
